#FuturePub is coming to San Francisco!
Food & drink! Lightning talks! Amazing venue!
FuturePub returned to London on May the 4th, and is now heading to San Francisco!
The evenings are designed to be fun and informal — like meeting up for drinks with friends after work. And at the same time giving people the opportunity to showcase the new and exciting things they’ve been working on in science & publishing tech.
We’ve hosted over a dozen FuturePub events, since our first back in January 2014, and quickly became known as “a staple of the London science tech/publishing scene” (thanks Eva!).
In case this is your first time, here’s how it works:
6pm – doors open, drinks and food available, conversations begin!
6:45pm – lightning talks start — usually 5-6 talks all fitting within an hour.
8:00pm – continued networking and drinks.
9:30pm – people start to head off to continue the conversation elsewhere.
and by 10pm we’ll need everyone to have left the LDAC, either home or to a bar!
Here’s the highlights video from our recent #FuturePub London to give you a flavour of the evening 🙂
Speakers & Talks
We’re excited to announce a fantastic line up of speakers for the lightning talks:
- Measuring the Ukraine economy through the war using alternative data sources, Apurv Jain, Founder and CEO of MacroXStudio
- Data data data… everything, everywhere, all at once, Suze Kundu, Director of Community at Digital Science
- Push Button Publishing — demoing Kotahi’s production interface, John Chodacki, member of the Coko Foundation Advisory Board.
- The History and the Future of Academia.edu, Richard Price, Founder and CEO, Academia.edu
- Can a Grey parrot pass the “Marshmallow Test”?, Irene M Pepperberg, Adjunct Research Professor at Boston University and president of The Alex Foundation.
We will also have some posters on display showcasing Simon Porter’s work on mapping out “What does a university look like?“!

Location
The Skywalker Room and Sessions Bar at Letterman Digital Arts Center (LDAC) – 1 Letterman Drive, San Francisco, CA 94129
When you get to LDAC, please head for The Skywalker Room and Sessions Bar / Café. Someone will also be at reception to help guide you if needed. The venue is fully accessible.
LDAC is the headquarters of Lucasfilm, and houses Industrial Light & Magic, LucasArts, and Lucasfilm’s marketing, online, and licensing units.
There are plenty of things to do in Presidio Park, and there are good transport links from across the city. The venue boasts a classic view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Food is locally sourced and much of it comes from Skywalker Ranch and Skywalker Vineyards located in Marin County.
Timings
Doors open at 6 pm and the event will kick off at 6:30 pm and run until 10pm.
If people would like to continue the science-themed fun, they can head to the Exploratorium’s After Dark event, taking place that evening.
Space at the venue is limited, so please register for your free tickets now to reserve your place!
See you on July the 13th!
