Calling all PhD students – Win a brand-new Macbook Pro #uberresearchprize

Last month, ÜberResearch was selected as one of the two winners of the Research Visualisation contest from the British Library, AHRC and BBSRC.

The competition required participants to best show how the £3 billion of funding is apportioned across the UK.

The ÜberResearch team have generously decided to donate their £2,000 prize winnings to a PhD* student, so they can be equipped with a brand-new MacBook Pro, fully stocked with a years Premium Figshare account, a pro license for Readcube, and a Projects license.

How to enter? The Competition consists of two stages:

Stage 1:

Please tweet using the hashtag #uberresearchprize how you would spend £10 million of science funding.

Keep your answers short and sharp (you only have a few characters!)

Here’s an example:

Tweets must be received no later than 14th July 2014 at 12pm BST, and you can only enter once. Please make sure you follow @DigitalSci and @UberResearch on Twitter, as we will need to contact you directly.

All eligible tweets shall be considered by our four-person judging panel comprising: Christian Herzog from ÜberResearch, Allan Sudlow from the British Library, Timo Hannay and Laura Wheeler from Digital Science.

The panel will select their top three entries to proceed to Stage 2.

Stage 2:

The entrants who have successfully proceeded to Stage 2 will be invited to write an original blog article of no more than 500 words, delving into their original tweet on how they would spend £10 million of science funding.

The blog entry must be received no later than the 31st July  2014 at 12pm BST.

The judging panel will then choose a winner from the three-blog posts. The winning entry will be posted here on the Digital Science blog, as well as winning a new Macbook Pro. The two runners up will get a Digital Science and ÜberResearch swag pack, as well as a years Premium Figshare account and a Projects license.

* In order to be eligible to enter the competition, you must be currently enrolled on a PhD (or equivalent, e.g. DPhil) research degree with a recognised university or equivalent higher education institution. The PhD may be full-time or part-time.
