CSIRO Publishing Partners with Altmetric To Gather Insights Into Reach and Influence of Publications
Our portfolio company Altmetric today announced that the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Publishing has integrated Altmetric data into its journal platform to highlight the online shares and discussion surrounding published articles. Altmetric Explorer and Badges will be used to analyse and showcase attention
CSIRO Publishing is part of the federal government agency for scientific research in Australia, and publishes books, journals and magazines across a range of scientific disciplines.
Altmetric badges, which provide a visual summary of the online attention a research output has received, can now be found on CSIRO Publishing article pages. Users can click on the badges to be taken to the full Altmetric details page for the article, which shows a collated record of all of the attention found in public policy sources, mainstream media outlets, social networks, scholarly and non-scholarly forums, and sites such as YouTube, Wikipedia and The Conversation.
CSIRO Publishing have also licensed access to the Altmetric Explorer for Publishers for their internal teams, providing them with the ability to search, filter and report on the online attention for over 11 million research outputs.
Andrew Stammer, Director at CSIRO Publishing, commented,
“It is really valuable for us to track online engagement with the research articles we publish. The implementation of Altmetric badges will help us to share details of this engagement with our authors and readers, and access to Altmetric Explorer will enable our teams to gain deeper insights as to how others perceive and use our content.”
Altmetric’s Founder, Euan Adie, added,
“We are really pleased that CSIRO Publishing have chosen to work with us to showcase the online attention surrounding their publications. Visibility into where their content is referenced in public policy or engaged with by specific audiences will help them and their authors better understand and demonstrate their reach and broader influence.”
The Altmetric badges are now live on the CSIRO Publishing platform.
