Overleaf, Altmetric and Jonathan Adams Take Part in Academic Book Week

Academic Book Week (January 23rd – 28th) is a festival which celebrates the academic book. It is organised by the British Library, The British Academy, UCL, Research Libraries UK, the Publishers Association, the Booksellers Association and the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers. The week will see academics, booksellers, publishers, libraries and universities host events, workshops, debates, exhibitions, competitions, special offers and more, to get people talking about academic books.
To celebrate Academic Book Week a number of employees from both Digital Science and our portfolio companies will be attending and speaking at different events. Here’s where you can find us:
Altmetric Webinar: Altmetrics for Books – Tracking Engagement and Driving Discovery
Today, technology allows a diverse range of audiences to engage and discuss scholarly books around the clock. In their latest webinar, Altmetric and a panel of experts hope to highlight how publishers and authors can become involved in this conversation and demonstrate the value of their publications by using metrics.
The aim of the discussion is to focus on the humanities and the social sciences, and with such an esteemed panel listeners from all academic backgrounds can hope to gain something from this webinar. Once the speakers have finished their presentations, the floor will be opened for a Q&A session.

Advancing Research: New Tools in Academic Publishing Workshop
The world of academic publishing is experiencing a wave of new tools that open up new platforms for collaboration and discovery. How do these tools add value to the communication cycle and how do researchers and publishers engage with these tools? This workshop aims to answer these questions by bringing together start-ups, researchers, and publishers to discuss solutions. Founders and managers of PaperHive, Overleaf, or Yewno will be leading the workshop session. The results of the event will lead to a publication.
Participants need to be researchers or publishers. Please register with an institutional email address for verification. Successful applicants will receive an email.

Emerging Tools and Metrics in the Book Impact Space
Our Chief Scientist, Jonathan Adams, will be speaking at an event organised by SpringerNature. Jonathan will be commenting on his landmark report, ‘Publication patterns in research underpinning impact in REF2014‘.

The Product Development Manager at Altmetric, Jean Liu, will also be attending the same session. Jean’s talk will focus on trends across book publishers.
