Altmetric Explorer for Institutions Adopted by University of Colorado Boulder
Altmetric announces that the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) has implemented the Altmetric Explorer for Institutions platform to help monitor and report on the online attention and engagement generated by their institutional research activities and publications.
CU Boulder is the flagship university of the University of Colorado System in Boulder, Colorado. Founded in 1876, the comprehensive research university has more than 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Explorer for Institutions will collate research mentions from news media, policy bodies, social networks, blogs, Wikipedia and post-publication peer-review forums as well as Scopus and online reference manager Mendeley. It will also provide paper, author, departmental and institutional level insights on how CU Boulder research is being received and shared amongst a wider audience.
Jeffrey Cox, Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs at CU Boulder says:
“In giving our faculty and administrators access to this tool we aim not only to encourage them to share more actively their research but also to support them in building their case for the reach of their scholarly and creative work. Altmetric provides us important data, previously not available to us, that will help us demonstrate the broader outcomes of the important work being done by our faculty.”
The data available to users via the Explorer platform are updated in real time, providing an up-to-date record of the online attention for over five million research outputs from institutions around the world as well as those published by the institution. Author and departmental listings are linked from the CU Boulder Symplectic Elements instance and are updated automatically as new items are added.
Altmetric Founder Euan Adie adds of the news,
“We’re continually seeking to expand our coverage and provide our users with the most comprehensive, relevant and useful insights. This Explorer for Institutions access enables CU Boulder to track the online engagement surrounding all of their research and that of their peer institutions, including non-article outputs, in a much more consistent and timely way than was previously possible.”
