Overleaf and SPIE Partner to Simplify Publishing Submission Process

Overleaf today announces a new publishing partnership with SPIE, a not-for-profit organization and the international society for optics and photonics. SPIE advances emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, and career and professional growth.

SPIE authors will now have access to the award-winning Overleaf collaborative writing and publishing platform – customized for SPIE journal and proceedings submissions. The partnership provides SPIE authors with easy-to-use, custom LaTeX templates – as well as simple submission links – to the SPIE proceedings or journal of their choice.

Many of our  journal authors are new to LaTeX, and they’re authoring in that environment at the recommendation of an advisor or mentor. Unsurprisingly, they find it challenging! We are thrilled that Overleaf has created an interface to simplify LaTeX authorship, and also allow collaboration between authors. We believe our authors will appreciate the simple and intuitive user-interface while using our journal and proceedings templates, and the submission links directly to our submission systems will simplify the submission process.

Custom templates will be available to help authors write and publish their work in the correct format, either for journals or for proceedings.

The partnership allows SPIE journal authors to access the Overleaf scientific writing service directly from SPIE, using links from the author guidelines.

Once the authors have completed writing and collaborating on a document in Overleaf, they will be able to submit directly to the SPIE Proceedings or to the SPIE journal of their choice, using a ‘journal selector’ submission link from within the Overleaf platform. This ‘journal selector’ submission link will allow authors to choose from ten SPIE journals for submission.

The main SPIE journal template and submission link is now live, with the SPIE Proceedings template and submission link coming later in August 2015.
