Figshare powers new Human Genome Variation Database
Today Figshare announces that it’s providing the technology to power the newly launched Human Genome Variation Database managed by Nature Publishing Group.
The Open Access database captures all the relevant information reported within a published Data Report in the Human Genome Variation journal. A Data Report is a standardized format of reporting genomic variation and variability.
The data in the HGV database will be published under a “CC0” license. The potential for text mining and large systematic analysis of the database is particularly exciting as Figshare have long been advocating open access, open data and better use of technology in academic publishing.
Professor Katsushi Tokunaga, Editor-In-Chief of Human Genome Variation explains:
“It is early days for the HGV database, but our hope that our partnership between Human Genome Variation and Figshare will mature and grow into an important resource for the genomics community, enabling researchers, clinicians, genetic counsellors and all those interested in genomics, access to genetic data and the resulting findings.”
This is a whole new offering in the Figshare for publishers suite which helps publishers enhance their content and boasts unique functionality. To find out more about this functionality, you can read this blog post over on Figshare.
